Purpose of Job
The Travel Officer is expected to deliver an improved travel management service to business units at the Africa CDC. The incumbent will effectively and efficiently support the travel requirements of personnel on official missions, staff benefits-related travels, and official visitors traveling on behalf of Africa CDC.
Main Functions
- Assist in following up on division activities, including monitoring and evaluating progress.
- Suggest new and expand on existing policy areas for planned research.
- Contribute to analysis and generate accurate reports for the Unit/Division and AU’s internal use.
- Assist in setting the overall research direction of relevant policy areas.
- Responsible for delegation and execution of defined research areas.
- Participate in organizing relevant meetings, congresses, and conferences.
- Engage with mid-level stakeholders and develop working relationships.
- Support promotion activities (leaflets, guidelines, fact sheets).
- Assist in drafting reports and preparing budgets/work programmes.
- Provide technical support to internal and external stakeholders.
Specific Responsibilities
- Handle day-to-day functions of the Travel Unit.
- Serve as focal person for administration of official mission and statutory travels.
- Calculate airfare, excess baggage entitlements, and daily subsistence allowance.
- Support travel planning activities.
- Advise staff on economical routes and plan itineraries.
- Review travel claims for completeness, accuracy, and conformity with AU rules.
- Coordinate with Finance Section for reimbursement.
- Institute controls in SAP to prevent duplicate claims.
- Track unused tickets and recover funds.
- Verify airline services before processing invoices.
- Advise on arrival information.
- Perform other duties as directed.
Academic Requirements and Relevant Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Travel Management, Marketing Management, Business Administration, Logistics, Transport Management, Accounting, or related field OR
- Master's Degree in any of these areas with:
- 5 years relevant work experience (Bachelor's)
- 2 years relevant work experience (Master's)
- Training and experience in travel management tools (e.g., Amadeus).
- Relevant training from travel-centric entities (IATA, ICAO) is an advantage.
- Work experience in travel administration and management is required.
- Experience with an airline or travel agency is an advantage.
- Familiarity with AU or international organisations’ procedures is an asset.

Tenure of Appointment
- Fixed-term contract for 1 year (3-month probationary period).

Languages
- Proficiency in one AU working language (Arabic, English, French, Kiswahili, Portuguese, Spanish) is mandatory.

Remuneration
- Internationally recruited staff: US$ 85,212.07 (P2 Step 5) inclusive of all allowances.
- Locally recruited staff: US$ 66,751.81 inclusive of all allowances.
