Purpose of the Job
The Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) is an autonomous technical institution of the African Union that supports Member States (MS) in planning, preparing, and responding effectively to public health threats and outbreaks. Guided by principles of credibility, ownership, transparency, and accountability, Africa CDC plays a pivotal role in strengthening the continent's healthcare manufacturing sector.
The African Union aims to increase vaccine manufacturing to meet 60% of the continent's demand by 2040. The Partnerships for African Vaccine Manufacturing (PAVM), under Africa CDC, has developed a Framework for Action (FFA) to achieve this goal. One of the key programs under the FFA is Market Design and Demand Intelligence, ensuring sustainability in vaccine manufacturing.
Following AU directives, Africa CDC is establishing a Pooled Procurement Mechanism (PPM) and upgrading PAVM to the Platform for Harmonized African Health Manufacturing (PHAHM) to expand local production of vaccines, therapeutics, and diagnostics.
Against this backdrop, Africa CDC is seeking a Transport and Logistics Assistant to support logistics operations within the Supply Division, ensuring efficient delivery of supplies and materials.
Main Functions
The Transport and Logistics Assistant will:
- Assist in logistics planning and coordination.
- Monitor shipments and maintain records.
- Ensure compliance with Africa CDC policies.
- Support emergency logistics operations.
Specific Responsibilities
Logistics Coordination
- Assist in preparing and implementing logistics plans.
- Support transportation coordination for timely deliveries.
- Track shipments and provide updates.
- Resolve transportation issues to ensure smooth operations.
Record Keeping & Documentation
- Maintain accurate records of logistics activities (shipments, inventory, costs).
- Ensure proper filing of shipping documents, customs clearance, and delivery receipts.
Vendor & Stakeholder Liaison
- Coordinate with transport service providers and freight forwarders.
- Assist in evaluating vendor performance and contract compliance.
Compliance & Reporting
- Ensure adherence to Africa CDC policies and standards.
- Prepare regular reports on logistics activities.
Administrative Support
- Assist with scheduling, correspondence, and office supplies.
- Prepare logistics-related documents and presentations.
Emergency Logistics
- Support rapid resource mobilization during emergencies.
- Assist in preparing emergency logistics plans and reports.
Other Duties
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by supervisors.
Academic Requirements & Experience
Option 1
- University Diploma in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related fields.
- Minimum 3 years of work experience in transport and logistics management.
Option 2
- Bachelor’s Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related fields.
- Minimum 2 years of work experience in transport and logistics management.
Required Skills
- Communication: Proficiency in at least one AU working language (Arabic, English, French, Portuguese, Spanish, Swahili). Knowledge of a second AU language is an advantage.

Employment Details
Tenure of Appointment
- Fixed-term contract: 1 year (3-month probationary period).
- Renewal subject to performance, funding, and deliverables.

Remuneration
- Internationally Recruited Staff: $55,174.63 (GSA5 Step 5) annually, inclusive of allowances.
- Locally Recruited Staff: $22,656.97 annually, inclusive of allowances.
