Job Overview
The Gavi REACH Health Officer will support immunization programs in Tigray, focusing on Zero Dose Children (ZDC) and overlooked communities in fragile and conflict-affected settings. The role involves:
- Strengthening immunization services within Primary Health Care (PHC) platforms.
- Training community and facility-based health workers.
- Enhancing disease surveillance and community engagement.
- Leading immunization program planning, execution, and evaluation.
Major Responsibilities
Program Coordination & Implementation
- Coordinate micro-plan preparation for immunization campaigns, including routine EPI and hard-to-reach areas.
- Map missed communities and ZDC to improve immunization coverage.
- Manage cold chain logistics, vaccine forecasting, and supply distribution.
- Support weekly movement plans for field supervision and mentorship.
- Develop IPC action plans for continuous quality improvement.
- Lead risk communication and community mobilization (RCCE) efforts.
- Monitor and report adverse events following immunization (AEFI).
- Represent IRC in regional health cluster meetings (RMNCH, EPI, PHEM).
Monitoring & Evaluation
- Compile weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
- Ensure timely data collection for polio and routine immunization (RI) monitoring.
- Assess program effectiveness and recommend adjustments.
Safeguarding Responsibilities
- Promote team engagement, inclusion, and IRC values.
- Foster learning and dialogue to strengthen safeguarding policies.
Minimum Qualifications
Educational Requirements
- Diploma/BSc/MSc in Nursing, Public Health, or MD from a recognized institution.
Preferred Experience & Skills
- 2+ years of experience (BSc) / 1+ year (MSc) / 5+ years (Diploma).
- Experience in immunization, PHEM, or emergency health response.
- Strong project management and supervisory skills.
- Knowledge of EPI and disease surveillance policies in Ethiopia.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
- Ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams.
- Experience in community-based participatory approaches.
- NGO experience in emergency health projects is a plus.
Language Skills
- Fluent in English (written and verbal).
- Local language proficiency is advantageous.
Certifications & Licenses
- Renewed professional license required.
