About the Job
The Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) Intern plays a crucial role in the DRC Ethiopia Shire office Programme team by assisting in tasks related to programme monitoring activities and ensuring accountability to affected populations. The intern will contribute to the success of DRC’s mission by supporting high-quality programme development and monitoring.
The intern will receive mentorship from the MEAL Specialist, with regular check-ins to support their professional growth and understanding of the humanitarian sector.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Needs Assessment, Reporting & Data Visualisation
- Participate in the design and implementation of needs assessments.
- Contribute to the preparation of assessment reports by synthesizing findings from needs assessments.
- Support data visualization and reporting.
- Engage in reviews of existing literature and secondary data analysis related to program areas, best practices, and case studies.
- Support documentation and tracking of feedback and complaints, analyzing trends in collaboration with the Program team.
Programmatic Learning & Development
- Actively engage in team meetings and collaborative sessions to discuss projects, challenges, and successes.
- Assist in documenting lessons learned and best practices.
- Participate in after-action reviews and project closure meetings to evaluate outcomes.
- Support the collection and analysis of case studies and success stories to highlight program impact.
Learning and Development Opportunities
- Gain exposure to real-world humanitarian programming and development work.
- Hands-on experience with donor engagement and proposal development.
- Learn about DRC's global work and the humanitarian response in Ethiopia.
- Build skills in programme quality management, coordination, and administration.
About You
Experience and Technical Competencies
- Ability to convey information clearly and manage tasks effectively.
- Knowledge of data analysis tools and principles.
- Strong organizational skills for tracking data/documents using software tools or databases.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office packages.
- Familiarity with AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT) for tasks like proposal editing and reporting.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Proactive and collaborative approach in a multicultural environment.
- Adaptability to dynamic project needs in a fast-paced setting.
Education
- Enrolled at a university in a relevant field with a minimum of two years of higher education completed, OR
- Graduated from a university within the last two years.
Language
- Fluency in English, Amharic, and Tigrinya (written and spoken).
